Recipes, ox eyes, a robbery and more

Wednesday, December 30, 1925: A century ago today, the Johnson City Chronicle provided several recipes to its readers. Some of the recipes follow:

“Fruit Cup – One grapefruit, two oranges, four canned pears, four slices canned pineapple, one cup syrup. Cut fruit into small pieces and set in a cool place over night. Drain off juice. Add syrup. Slightly sweeten juice and add as much of it as needed. This recipe serves eight.”

“Ox Eyes – Cut circles from inch thick slices of bread. Hollow out center and break an egg on each. Add salt, pepper, bits of butter. Cover with milk and bake until brown.”
