Thursday, February 5, 1925: One hundred years ago today, the Johnson City Chronicle alerted readers that “Following the opening of the ‘F and M’ Grocery store (sic for Store) on West Market street (sic for Street), opposite the Arcade Building, trade has been brisk, due to the many advantages offered in the way of low prices, due to the ‘cash and carry’ system, and more particularly the new and attractive quality of goods displayed and handled in the most sanitary methods available.
