Thursday, May 7, 1925: A century ago today, the Johnson City Chronicle reported news from Elizabethton. Mrs. Alex Shell submitted the article. “On Saturday evening Mr. and Mrs. Clay Slagle very delightfully entertained with a six-o’clock dinner at their home on Sycamore street (sic for Street), in special compliment to Mr. and Mrs. J. Frank Slagle, and Mrs. R. A. Slagle, of Knoxville, house guests over the week-end (sic for weekend) of Mrs. Elizabeth Slagle. The beautiful dinner table was centered with a handsome cut glass owl holding gorgeous syringa. Covers were laid for eight, and a delicious five course dinner was faultlessly served to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Slagle, Mrs. R. A. Slagle, Mrs. Elizabeth and Miss Pansie Slagle, Master Kyle Slagle, Misses Marie and Helen O’Brien and Mr. and Mrs. Clay Slagle.”
