Thursday, January 22, 1925: A century ago today, the Johnson City Staff-News reported that “Although moderate weather in mid-winter is said to be conductive to bad colds, leading into pneumonia, and a prolific period for influenza, it has been remarked that prevalence of these maladies in Johnson City has been only to the limited degree. A few cases of pneumonia have been recorded, with the pre-cent (sic for percent) of fatality low; and only an occasional case of influenza has been reported, these apparently of a minor degree of severity. Altogether, during the damp and changeable weather conditions occurring at this season of the year, health conditions here have been good, and considered probably above normal.”
