Monday, October 1, 1900: One hundred and twenty-five years ago today, The Knoxville Sentinel reported news with a dateline from Johnson City. “The case of the state against Thomas Collins and Charles Farmer came up before Squire A. H. Bullock, and the crowd was so great that the court house (sic for courthouse) had to be used. These young men were charged with having caused in some way the death of John Humphrey at the city jail last Tuesday night. J. H. Bowman and J. B. Cox represented the state, and H. M. Carr and S. S. Crumbley the defense.
