1775 events, Tennessee Supreme Court, Erwin hospital, a murder and more
Sunday, July 9, 1775: Two hundred and fifty years ago today, “Several significant events occurred, particularly related to the ongoing American Revolutionary War and the earlier French and Indian War. In the context of the Revolutionary War, George Washington issued General Orders in Cambridge, Massachusetts, appointing Horatio Gates as Brigadier General and Adjutant General of the Continental Army. Also, a raid by South Carolina and Georgia forces on the ship Phillippa near Tybee Point resulted in the seizure of 16,000 pounds of gunpowder, with 4,000 pounds later sent to the Continental Congress in Philadelphia.
