Sad loss for Science Hill
Wednesday, March 5, 1975: Fifty years ago today, in an article with a dateline from Kingsport and a byline from Sports Writer Rick King, readers of the Johnson City Press-Chronicle learned that “Reserve Mickey Moody sank two free throws with 12 seconds left to play as Sullivan Central Cougars had a pressure packed 38-37 win over the Science Hill Hilltoppers and the Greeneville Green Devils ran away from Morristown East, 68-44, in the second night of action in the Region One Class I, basketball tournament here last night.
“Three points was the largest margin dividing the scores of the ‘Toppers and the Cougars at any point in the contest as Sullivan Central proved to have nerves of steel down the stretch in passing the heartbreaking one point loss over Science Hill.
